A Quick Throw-Together Meal + Some Seasonal Advice

The truth is, sometimes it's not perfect

The theme so far this week (yup, it’s Monday) is that no one has time to plan meals, let alone healthy or balanced ones!

I call bologna! Sorry, fried bologna- it’s a Buffalo thing.

Healthy and perfect are not synonymous and you’re keeping yourself stuck if you think that every meal needs to be perfectly balanced and completely healthy. This more than acceptable quick chicken stir fry meal is a perfect example.

As the days get shorter and your to-do list gets longer you can still prioritize healthy meals. As long as you cover the basics you’ll roll into January feeling in control and ahead of the game. Here are a few tips to keep you sane and on-track for the rest of the year…

  • Prioritize any movement- move your body at least 30 minutes a day. Every day, that mean’s a trip to the laundry room if you can’t make the trip to the gym or taking an extra lap around the mall when you head out to do some shopping.

  • Have simple go-to healthy add-ins available. Frozen veggies like spinach or asparagus toss nicely in scrambled eggs for a balanced meal in under 5 minutes. Rice can always be paired with canned beans and some taco sauce from a jar, and frozen broccoli in a box of mac & cheese is still a veggie. Let go of the idea of control right now, you have enough going on.

  • Sleep is more important- than pretty much anything else. Make sure you’re logging at least 6 hours of zzzzz’s every night, even if that means you give up your bedtime scrolling.

  • Perfection is over rated. Work on being present not perfect and watch your stress evaporate. Stress is created when your resources don’t meet the demand, for example time (resource) versus an overwhelming to-do list (demand), money (resource) versus buying all the presents (demand). Reframe your perspective of being perfect and just be present.

I promise you that once the business of the season is over you can fully embrace the season of perfection if you feel compelled, but for now just be here now.
